The breeding goal of the icelandic horse for the quality "Tölt"

The Icelandic horse should have tölt with good 4-beat rhytm, elegant action and large steps with both the hind legs and the front legs. The movements should be very supple and there should be a great speed range, the horse should be able to be elegant and with clean beat in both slow tölt and fast tölt.

What are considered faults are mainly:
  • No tölt
  • A difficult tölt (very trotty, it's almost like trot, like fox-trot)
  • A pacy tölt, stiff and pace-like
  • Little speed in the tölt
  • Irregular tölt, jumping between gaits (víxl)
  • Short momvements, irregular tölt, where the horse is stronger in one side than the other (using one side more than the other)
  • Rolling
  • if the horse can't tölt shlow tölt, or has only bad slow tölt
  • Little action, no elegance
