SOME GENETICS

Ink spots can be caused by the horse being homozyous tobiano, that is, if the horse is bred, it should produce 100% tobiano foals. It is though only a very strong indication, not an unfallable proof. If you see such ink spots on the animal, ask whether it has two tobiano parents, if it has, it is even more likely that you are seeing a homozygous pinto horse.
