The foal color is quite similar on a red dun foal and on an adult red dun, only lighter on the foal, that is, the foal grows a bit darker as it grows up. Here can a very definite feature be seen, all red duns have a stripe (eel) on their back, going from their ears back through the tail. A stripe can sometimes be seen on chestnuts, but the stripe on a red dun is a bit brownish, while the stripe on chestnuts is a bit reddish. A foal from 1999 (son of Eva and Galsi from Sauđárkróki). Dögg from Halldórsstöđum, heavy with a foal. ©-LUKKA Some genetics: The red dun colour is on the D-locus. A dominant gene D changes a chestnut with ee-gene combintation into a red dun.
