The breeding goal of the icelandic horse for the quality "Proportions"

Our stallion, Sproti from Langhúsum, got 8.0 for proportions

The proportions of the icelandic horse should be such that the horse has rather long feet, the barrel is round, but long and light. It should have as high (for mares) or higher (for stallions) withers as the height of the croup. The horse should be overall elegant, and the 3 parts (front, middle and back) should be equally long (that is, the front makes one third of the total length of the horse, the middle another third, and the behind another third). The total length of the horse should be a tiny bit more than the height of the withers.

What are considered faults are mainly:
  • Lower withers than croup
  • Deep, heavy barrel
  • Flat sides
  • Low feet in proportion to the rest of the horse
  • The horse is short in proportion to the height of the body
  • If a horse has exceptionally little mane it can lower the evaluation for this quality
