Accommodation and location.

Location of Fljót,
our neighbourhood.
We are situated in northern Skagafjörður, 45 minutes drive north
of Sauðárkrókur (asphalt road). In the summertime
you can drive directly from Akureyri on a gravel road, and it takes about
90 minutes to drive that way.

Location of Langhús
ranch.
Langhus
ranch is in the upper right corner of this map, on the left of the lake
Miklavatn (where a little x
is marked on the map). If you're coming on a visit, it's a good idea
to print out this picture.
From
Varmahlíð (in the left low corner) you can go to west (left)
to Reykjavík, and to east (right) to Akureyri.
Accommodation.
There
is a comfortable guest house just a 2 minutes drive from the main house
at Langhus. It has all the basic provisions of a home, with beds
for 6 people, a kitchen, living room, and costs about 45$ per night, regardless
of how many guests are there.
In
the neighbourhood, within 30-45 minutes of driving, there are also all
sorts of accommodation offered, both summer houses, a 4 star hotel, small
guesthouses in villages or on farms, whatever your heart desires.
In
our neighbourhood there are various activities offered, especially in the
summertime. You can go trout fishing in good rivers close to us,
there are many farms offering good trekkings (both short and long) on horseback,
tours with boat to Drangey island with it's millions of nesting birds are
very popular, river rafting on easy or more adventurous rivers are also
a thrill. Other activities include historical museums, going to the
round ups in the fall (where hundreds of horses are herded to the corrals),
seeing horse shows and evaluations etc. etc. Western Icelanders enjoy
tremendously to visit the emmigration center at Hofsós, which is
about the history of the Icelanders that moved to America, and if your
ancestors were Icelandic, they can help you trace your roots here.
The
community is rural, there is a lot of space, but with towns, so you can
enjoy the nature and the freedom at the same time as getting everything
you need without much effort.
