Tips on getting from Keflavik to Reykjavik (about half an hour drive).

If you have rented a car, it is easy, the road system in Iceland is simple.  Here is a link to the sites of various car rentals in connection with the Keflavik international airport.

If not, there is an airbus that goes from Keflavik to Reykjavik.  Here is a link to the airbus site.

Tips on getting from Reykjavik to Langhús.

From Reykjavik to Langhús are about 350 km, of good asphalt road.

If you have rented a car, you simply take the Ringroad (highway nr. 1) west.  Take care not to take the Ringroad to the east (the ringroad goes in a circle around Iceland).  You drive for a while by the Ringroad, untill you come to the village Varmahlíð (Varmahlid).  You drive on the Ringroad past Varmahlid, drive on for maybe 3 minutes, untill you see a road that goes to the left, the Road 76 to Siglufjordur.  You drive that road for a while, past the little village Hofsos.  20 km north of Hofsos, you find Langhus farm, a sign to the left.  Please book your visits ahead, we do all we can to help you enjoy your visit.

So, to put it simply, to get from Reykjavik to Langhus, you only have to drive road 1, and turn to the left just after Varmahlid.

Another option is to take a domestic airplane from Reykjavik to Sauðárkrókur.  The Ernir air company flies this way, to book with them, call tel. +00354-5624200.

Location of Langhús ranch

Langhus ranch is in the upper right corner of this map, on the left of the lake Miklavatn. Actually, the farm is where you see the numer 7 between a small lake, a yellow road, and a red road. If you're coming on a visit, it's a good idea to print out this picture.

If you have not rented a car, you can take the bus from Reykjavik to Varmahlid, then take the bus that goes from Varmahlid to Siglufjordur.  The bus driver can help you, if prompted, and tell you where Langhus is, so you can step off at our driveway.  We will gladly wait for you there, if we know when you are coming.

Riding clothes - disinfection.

Tourists and visitors that come from other countries to Iceland, are really welcome, but have to realize that they have a big responsibility.  Iceland has been virtually free from infectous diseases in horses and other husbandry animals, and it is also your responsibility to help us keep it that way.  Nobody wants either to become famous for importing a new disease to Iceland.

-Take care, and think twice, because all shoes and clothes that have been worn around animals or in stables can be carrying infectous diseases.

-Horsemen and others, who are in contact with horses or other animals, should take utmost care to prevent the spreading of infectious diseases during their travels in Iceland and they are reminded of the current rules about import of used riding tack and riding clothes.

-It is prohibited to bring used riding equipment to Iceland. Used riding clothes must be thoroughly cleaned and riding boots must be disinfected. Clothes and boots that have been in contact with animals abroad must be treated the same way. Clothes that cannot be thoroughly cleaned or disinfected (leather gloves, wax coats, helmets etc.) may not be brought to Iceland.

-If riding boots have not been disinfected before arrival, the company "Fagræsting sf." operates a fast disinfection service at Keflavik International Airport.

Approved disinfectants (the boots must be soaked in the solution for 10 minutes):

Virkon 1%

Caustic soda (0,2%)

Crystalline soda (5%)

Setax (0,3%)

Korsolin (3%)

Formalin (2%)

Phenol solution (2-5%)

-As a general guideline:  Wash all your riding clothes and stable clothes in your washing machine before coming to Iceland.  Regarding shoes and helmets, disinfect them, or buy new ones, or loan some in Iceland (we have a few helmets, one of them might fit you).

If you are not sure regarding something that you have to bring with you, that might have been in touch with viruses or bacteria, it is at least worth the try to put it in the freezer for a few days, to minimize the risk.
