Examples of common features.

Blazes.

Icelandic: Blesóttur.
Description: The horse has a white line down it's face.

Medium chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, and blaze.

Dark chestnut with light mane and blaze.

Sometimes the blaze can be very broad, as on this mare (breiðblesóttur). There is a theory that this might be a sabino gene working, but it the presence of sabino has not been prooved in icelandics.

Sometimes the blaze can be very narrow. Then it's called a comet (halastjarna).

Blazes are rare on black Icelandic horses.

Stars.

Icelandic: Stjörnótt.
Description: The horse has a white spot on it's forehead.

Snips.

Icelandic: Nösótt.
Description: The horse has a white spot between the nostrils and the lip.

Socks.

A black horse with two socks.
Socks are not common on icelandic horses, and most horses with socks are pinto. This horse is not pinto but has one big and clear sock, and one smaller. The mare's name is Kyssa.

Leg-stripes.

Icelandic: Kengálótt.
Description: The horse has black stripes on the upper part of the forelegs, or all legs. Such stripes can be on bay dun and blue dun horses, sometimes there are red such stripes on yellow duns.

Sclera.

Icelandic: Hringeygur, ægishjálmur.
Description: Sclera. The horse has a white or blue ring around the iris. When a horse has blue eyes, it usually also has a broad blaze or a big white pinto spot on it's face. It happens though that a horse without white markings has some white in an eye.

Icelandic: Vagl.
Description: Sclera, glass eye. The horse has a white or blue ring area in the shape of a new moon. It does not circle around the iris. Can appear without the horse having any other white markings.

Swirls.

Icelandic: Sveipur. Such a swirl at the base of the neck are called sundfjaðrir.
Description: Swirls. It causes the short hair on the horse to go in waves.

Dapples.

Healthy coat dapples. Can be seen on all colors, but are not very obvious. Can often be best seen in sunshine, on horses in good nutritional condition. Are not seen on horses that are changing coats or horses that don't have a shiny coat. Are very obvious on many silver dapple horses. Blíða from Barði.

Bend Or spots.

Bend Or spots. Can be seen on some chestnuts, these are like bay or liver chestnut spots on a chestnut base color.
