Some genetics:

The palomino colour is a Ccr gene on the C-locus.  A palomino horse has ee on the locus for chestnut, which means that the horse is chestnut.  A palomino horse also has CCcr in the C-locus, which changes all red hairs into yellow hairs, making the chestnut a palomino.  You can not have a palomino with CcrCcr gene-combination in the C-locus, a horse with that combination becomes Cremello (albino).

The colour in different languages:

Norway: Gul, gulblakk.
Denmark: Isabella.
USA: Palomino, isabella.
UK: Palomino, isabella.
Germany: Isabell, palomino.
Dutch:  Isabel.
